Nbcastings produces components that will never fail. Our quality ensures the safety of our customers and end users in demanding markets such as automotive and pumps and valves. There are several potential issues that can arise during the metal casting process. Having sound procedures in place helps, but having testing capabilities is critical to any metal casting project. The Nbcastings facility has extensive metal testing and metal analysis capabilities. We offer on-site mechanical testing, chemical analysis, dimensional testing, and non-destructive testing (NDT). Nbcastings also offers metallographic testing. Ultimately, we deliver components that meet our customers’ exact specifications and are certified to the highest quality standards.
Mechanical Testing
Nbcastings can meet a range of mechanical requirements with comprehensive mechanical testing capabilities. Our certified technicians continually push the mechanical limits of our components to ensure they meet the highest quality and safety standards. The benefit of mechanical testing is that it provides numerical values and is often non-destructive. Our metal mechanical testing capabilities include:
- Tensile testing (ambient and elevated temperature)
- Impact testing/Charpy testing
- Brinell and Rockwell hardness testing
- Stress rupture
Chemical Analysis
Nbcastings performs a range of chemical analysis techniques to confirm the chemical composition of the parts we produce. Chemical composition is probably the most common quality test for metal castings. Through our various chemical analysis tests, Nbcastings can determine the quality of the material and which alloys may be problematic. Our chemical analysis tests include:
- Carbon Sulfur Determination
- Chemical Analysis Using Optical Emission Spectrometer
- Stage Inspection
- X-Ray Fluorescence (Spectrometer)
Dimensional Testing
Nbcastings uses a variety of testing methods to confirm that the dimensions of the parts we produce meet the most stringent customer quality standards. This type of metal testing is primarily a visual test and does not physically affect the part. Typically, dimensional testing is used for engine parts, valves, or high-value metal castings. Our dimensional testing methods include:
- Visual inspection
- Standard metrology, traceable to NIST
- Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) – the most accurate measurement yet
- Laser scanning for dimensional compliance checks
Nondestructive Testing (NDT)
Nbcastings’ multiple facilities are independently audited and compliant with Nadcap and other NDT standards. Instruments are fully calibrated to industry standards. Field technicians are fully trained and certified in NDT Level II and III. Nbcastings NDT capabilities include:
- Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) / Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI)
- Magnetic Particle Inspection
- Online and Offline Hydrostatic Testing
- Positive Material Identification
- Radiography (X-ray)
